Majbrit - EC Chair & WSO Board Trustee updates -

Read by Jeffrey as Majbrit is at the Belgium ACA retreat in Voeren.

This month I have worked with numerous service structures - Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Russia, Denmark & Spain.
Will be doing a workshop of Translation and how important the translation process is and how to get beyond the challenges of being right about the correct translation.

Also using Concepts & Traditions of Service.

Met with Anna from the Polish translation team in London replacing Anya.  Meeting was brief & also had contact with former translation chair.

Long call with Lise now in Paris interested in doing service on EC & difference between French & Quebecois French.  Discussion was about how to set up a translation team, etc.  Lise has signed a contract & waiting for how to deal with the two types of French.

Denis/Moscow CR for Russia is going to Turkey & 2 ACA meetings.  He’ll gather some contacts.  He’s taking new EC flyer & speaking about the service EC does.

Jeffrey - EC Literature

New EC trifold about EC as it communicates what we do on EC - broadly.  Loads of contacts on back.  We introduced this at Convention in London last weekend.  Interesting as it explains how EC works:

  1. to internationalise WSO
  2. to make literature available outside US
  3. to help service structures in Europe grow

2 essential big ideas -

1 - No service, no program!  Without someone willing to do service there is no program

2 - No literature, no recovery.  People without literature in native language.  Native speakers are grateful that we have literature but until you have it in your native language, there’s not as much

ACA virtually folded until BRB was written.  It was created as a handbook and for workshops, meetings, etc.  Without it, recovery is limited.

The EC trifold will be posted on EC website, Slack, etc

Hungarian Translation team - we met with many in London.

EC spoke briefly in London & spoke from our own experience of doing service.  What we get out of it personally.

Jeffrey to be attending next Russian international convention with 300 - 400 people next weekend.  Speaking and helping workshops on literature as they’re getting to reprint again!

Charlie - Literature

Pretty quiet month.

1.  Literature call today 11-12.30 US Eastern time (17.30 CET)  712 775 7085 code 690690#  for discussion of literature matters.

2.  WSO Board has approved a contract to design & publish Greek YWB; should be finished within weeks.

3.  YWBs in pipeline for 3 other countries - expanding publications available to European fellowships.

Reports & Questions invited from Country Reps:

Sweden ABC 2019 - Frederik & Sofia

Frederik - work in progress.  Website ready to go live - www.acaworldconvention.org

You can register for accommodation & ABC straight away

Lots of text to write about accommodation - hotel, program, speakers, workshops, etc

Also people willing to be service volunteers for Thursday to Sunday but it all takes time.

More time than expected to do this.

Interest already from members from 4 other countries who wish to do service.

Next is the program and volunteers and more work on home page.

Connecting with nearby meetings to Malmo about hosting fellow members in their homes

Agrees that without service there’s no program

Hope to have new YWB in Swedish for the event as it is supposed to explode the fellowship.

Sofia - 2 Facebook pages  (TM: what are they?)

1 - anyone who’s interested - general info (TM:  I didn’t understand this)

2 - hidden Facebook for Volunteers to create teamwork and get to know Malmo and what to expect - thus be more inspired and join in.

[email protected] for anyone keen to do service

[email protected] for anyone wishing to give a workshop or talk

[email protected] for general questions

Any questions/?

Jeffrey - website is also mentioned in the EC trifold

Leila FL - volunteering for service each day

Marcia - would it help the ABC/AWC committee to have their own Slack channel?

Slack is used by WSO and EC as a communications channel and it’s very effective.

Swedish YWB - it’s being put in place with electronic templates to make it all faster; should be available for next year.  It will be an amazing development.  Swedish fellowship development as a result simply because of the Newcomer handbook

Charlie - As soon as Swedish YWB is ready, we will be ready to go ahead.  Majbrit and Charlie.  Very impressed with the Swedish fellowship’s acceptance of the ABC & AWC.

Country updates

Jeffrey asked Leila When is Finish fellowship meeting ?

March date 2019 TBC

Finish National Business convention - about 20 people present with only 3 suggestions.  Used the ballot system.

Recovery Meeting?  2 summer camps and Women’s Week and Little Christmas

2019 probably in July - venue TBC

Have had Finish YWB for approx a year and it has accelerated recovery.

1000 YWBs printed and in circulation.

Until you do the workbook/steps you won’t dig deep enough to do another level of recovery.

There are groups only doing the YWB in weekly meetings.

ACA WSO & EC are setting up electronic templates in European format for publication of ACA literature.

Finish YWB will be redone in A4 format.

Frederik - 2 meetings every year for Swedish ABC - one spring & fall.  Next is Gothenburg 10 Nov.  Also have a Swedish ABC around this - Fri - Sun with 80-100 attendees.  Sweden’s service conference will be held at ABC 2019 on the Sat

Kadri-Liisa - Estonia - about translating recent issues of literature??

Jeffrey - probably people in charge of Translation who’ve signed a contract and are legally translating literature and are in contact with WSO will be receiving updates

Charlie - we’re in the middle of a substantial overhaul of Translation support.  When I first become Translation Chair we only had something for Spanish translators.  Majbrit chairs the Translation committee and we have a guidance document for the translators.  We are working to have a more systematic listing of edition changes so people can keep next printing of translations update.  There are no big changes of BRB in the last year.  No fear that your book is much different from the original.  In 3-6 months we’ll have regular notifications/emails to keep translators up to date.  We’re working on it.

Motion to close meeting at 14.50.

Closed with ACA Serenity Prayer.

NEXT MEETING:  DATE Sat November 3rd   14.00 CEST
