We’re having a town hall event to present the floor motion* presented and passed (pending minority opinion) at the 2023 ACA Annual Business Conference that calls for acknowledging the traumatizing impact of racism on children and families, and the inclusion of personal shares that include experiences of systemic, structural racism in ACA literature.
We’ll discuss the background and intention of the floor motion, what we hope to accomplish and how people can get involved. We’ll identify literature projects currently in progress, and identify specific service opportunities.

From the following floor motion submitted at the 2023 ACA ABC (passed by delegates & pending minority opinion):

“I move to create a BIPOC working group to acknowledge the effects of racism and generational racial trauma on ACAs. Like the spiritual inclusion working group, this group would develop guidance for the literature committee and broader fellowship regarding issues that disproportionately impact BIPOC members and collaborate with the literature committee in the evaluation of completed projects and revision of other ACA literature to ensure issues of racial equity and racial trauma are addressed effectively.”

Acknowledging the traumatic effects of racism (and xenophrenia) in ACA literature will create a more complete description of the ACA experience from our evolving fellowship view. It is a necessary step toward reaching the adult child suffering from institutionalized marginalization to come out of isolation and denial, and experience validation, belonging and the message that recovery is possible ❤️‍🩹
