LITERATURE COMMITTEE REPORT FOR AUGUST 2017 
(July 2017 Activity)

CALL FOR LITERATURE COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS! TRANSLATORS, WRITERS, EDITORS, PROOFREADERS, ILLUSTRATORS, GRAPHIC DESIGNERS, LAYOUT SPECIALISTS, AND PHOTOGRAPHERS WANTED!

We have a lot of exciting projects in the works, and are grateful for the enthusiastic teams of volunteers that are helping shape the future of ACA. 

Literature Development Subcommittee

The Literature Development Subcommittee Volunteer Orientation meeting, held July 29, was a resounding success. Discussion topics included developing structure and format for evaluation and development of WSO literature, and a briefing on four future literature projects that require volunteer assistance. We also discussed introduction procedures for future participation. Nearly 30 volunteers joined the call.

It is not too late to join the Literature Development volunteer team. Our next volunteer meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm Eastern Time. Please note the new call-in number and access code for this meeting:

ComLine

The special annual ABC 2017 issue is complete and available for download. The 3rd quarter 2017 issue is also complete and available for download. 

 

We are currently accepting submissions for the 4th quarter 2017 ComLine. Submissions are due by August 31, 2017, and online publication is scheduled for October 1. The themes for the 4th quarter are Steps and Traditions, 10, 11 and 12. We look for personal stories of experience, strength, and hope. Remember, we are also looking for poetry and artwork!

The focus of each issue follows: 

  • January –March (1st Quarter), Steps 1, 2, 3 and Traditions 1, 2, 3
  • April –June (2nd Quarter) Steps 4, 5, 6 and Traditions 4, 5, 6
  • July –September (3rd Quarter), Steps 7, 8, 9 and Traditions 7, 8, 9
  • October –December (4th Quarter) Steps 10, 11, 12 and Traditions 10, 11, 12 

We especially appreciate shares from adult children from around the world. Please share in the language of your childhood; we will publish your share in your language.

Translations

The Castilian (Spanish for Spain BRB) translation is complete, and the BRB print version is in pre-production. We anticipate having the printed version ready for distribution and presentation at the EU Madrid conference in September 2017. 

 

Production of Russian BRB is with Russia for completion and distribution. 

 

All tri-folds and booklets offered for sale in the shopping cart are translated to Danish, Spanish, Finnish, and Russian. Finnish is currently in preproduction; Spanish trifolds are in the vetting process prior to upload. 

 

We continue to add new and updated translations to the free literature for download page. All languages will be available for free as layout on them is completed. Free downloads are on our site at http://www.adultchildren.org/non-english-literature.

Strengthening My Recovery

Greek translation layout is complete, and is being reviewed by the Greek translation team prior to printing. The Spanish translation is ready for linguistic review, after which layout can commence. 

Literature Development subcommittee

  • Developing structure and format for evaluation and development of WSO literature.  
  • Orientation call with new volunteers to brief on future plans and introduce procedure for future participation.

12 Step Workbook Update

The period for receiving comments and suggestions for updates to the workbook is now closed. The literature review subcommittee will review comments/suggestions for accuracy and redundancy, with the goal of making the updated book a top publication priority. 

Strengthening My Recovery e-book

E-book sales for June were 91 books. Total sold is 800 e-books.

e-BRB

Sales for June were 250 e-books sold. Total sold is 13,076 e-BRBs.

a-BRB

Audio BRB sales for June were 110 a-books sold. Total sold is 2,567 a-BRBs.

Miscellaneous

More than 600 emails were traded both domestically and abroad. Emails to cover the scope of literature development and evaluation, new literature offerings, suggestions for future publications and updates, translations, printing / reprinting of new and existing products, digital offerings.

 

Our next quarterly Literature Committee(s) meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 7, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time.
