ACA Adult Children of Alcoholics

January 2019

Happy Birthday, ACA!

Saturday January 26, 2019

The 2014 ABC passed motion abc_2014_23, making the last Saturday of the month of January a day for our World Organization to celebrate the beginning of the program that is helping us to find freedom from dysfunction.  Please celebrate with us at your meetings around this date!

New ComLINE Edition

The latest ComLINE was just released!  The ComLINE is our quarterly publication where members, from around the fellowship, share their experience, strength, and hope (ESH) on the 12 Steps, Traditions, and Promises of ACA.  If you would like to share ESH from your own recovery journey or view current and back issues, please visit the ACA ComLINE Page.

2019 ABC/AWC News

The 2019 ABC/AWC will be held in Malmö, Sweden. More information, including about registration, can be found on the Convention Website.

ACA Annual Business Conference - April 25 & 26, 2019
ACA World Convention - April 26 (evening), 27 & 28, 2019

It's Time to Vote on the Ballot Proposals
In advance of the ABC in April, meeting groups and Intergroups, worldwide, are asked to cast their opinions on whether or not each Proposal merits discussion at the upcoming Business Conference. Ballots will be posted in January. More information will be announced on the Ballot Prep Committee Page. Any questions may be submitted to [email protected].

Each Meeting and Intergroup Designates a Delegate
The business of the WSO is conducted at the ABC primarily by the Delegates, who are chosen by their group to be their representative. Some information about becoming a Delegate – the role and responsibilities – may be found on the  Delegate Training Page. This page will be updated periodically, so refer back, as needed.

NEW! The 2019 ABC Offers Remote Voting
Traditionally, the only Delegates who were able to participate and vote at the Annual Business Conference were those who could afford the time and expense of attending the ABC. Until now. This April, Delegates directly representing a meeting or Intergroup will be able to have a voice, and a vote, on the matters brought before the conference.

All Delegates, whether in attendance or at a distance, must register first at acaworldconvention.org.  Trainings, and opportunities for questions and answers, will be available in the weeks leading up to the ABC. As mentioned above, all delegates may find pertinent information on the Delegate Training Page.

Delegate Training Subcommittee (DTSC)
The purpose of the DTSC is to serve as a resource to help educate Delegates and Alternate Delegates of groups and Intergroups to the ABC.  Educational documents to prepare for their role are currently available on the DTSC Webpage.  Teleconference trainings will be available in April prior to the ABC.  We strongly suggest becoming familiar with these resources so that all may have a well-informed conference experience.  Questions may be directed to [email protected].

ABC Remote Voting and Teleconferencing Support
We are creating a subcommittee to support remote voting and teleconferencing for the 2019 ABC. Do you have experience with teleconferencing for large groups, audio recording, or an interest in being of service? We can use your help!! Please contact us at [email protected].

New Trifold in Free Literature - Finding Emotional Sobriety
We have a new conference approved trifold to share the ACA message of recovery with adult children who are still suffering the affects, even though they've found stage one recovery in AA.  It's available to view, download and share in grayscale or color.

Carrying the Message
As part of our 12th step we try to carry this message to all who suffer from the effects of childhood abuse, trauma, neglect, and abandonment. ACA WSO is grateful for your contributions that help us do that vital work. Check out our flyer titled "Where the Money Goes" to see how we utilize your contributions to carry the ACA message around the world. Please consider making a monetary contribution to help the next ACA receive the gift of recovery.  Contributions can be made online, by calling at 562-595-7831, or by mail payable to ACA WSO, 1458 E 33rd Street, Signal Hill, CA 90755.

Does your ACA group meet on more than one day and time a week?
We now have an enhancement to the meeting list database, which allows a registered Group to specify more than one meeting day and time. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to use this new feature.  New enhancements for meeting and intergroup searches are coming soon as well.

Addressing Predatory Behavior (APB) - Safety Statements
The APB committee has published examples for group conscience approved safety statements used in different ACA meetings online.  Check out these Safety Statements, if you are considering something similar in your home group meeting!

About Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA)

ACA is a worldwide 12 Step / 12 Tradition program of recovery dedicated to people who were raised in dysfunctional families. ACA does not seek to assign blame to parents or caretakers, but we seek to understand the reality of how family dysfunctions affected us as children and still affects our adult behavior today.

Family dysfunction can include alcoholism, abandonment, neglect, or any type of addiction or abuse. ACA is synonymous with ACoA; Adult Children Anonymous; & Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families.
